Her passion for mental health and nutrition culminated in a Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology from Bastyr University in 2008.

Throughout her dynamic career, Lisa has honed her skills in diverse settings, including serving as a behavior specialist for nonverbal adolescents with autism, consulting for the Nisqually Indian Tribe's Head Start program, and guiding individuals struggling with eating disorders and addictions.

Conducted a retrospective chart analysis (N=1) on the success of an alternative method of analyzing behavior through a functional medicine lens and implanting a treatment plan that addresses suspected biochemical imbalances with a combination of sensory and behavioral interventions.

    2008 | Thesis, Bastyr University. Supervisor: Wendy Weber, ND, PhD, MPH. Studied the effect of food elimination diets on symptoms and quality of life in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by conducting a retrospective chart analysis.

    2007 | Pre-doctoral fellowship, Bastyr University. Supervisor: Wendy Weber, ND, PhD, MPH. Developed an instrument to track patient symptoms during a food hypersensitivity challenge.

    2006 | Pre-doctoral fellowship, Bastyr University. Supervisor: Wendy Weber, ND, PhD, MPH. Conducted research and analysis on the effectiveness of naturopathic treatments on symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents.

    2002 | Odonata natural history, La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. Supervisor: Jack Longino, PhD. Collected larvae from stream beds, built rearing cages, monitored development, and photographed developing larvae of various species of Odonata in order to provide final instar exuviae descriptions.

    2002 | Biodiversity and abundance patterns, La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. Supervisor: Jack Longino, PhD. Identified morphology and patterns of abundance from a collection of over 200 specimens of Arachnida and Opiliones occupying three sizes of two bromeliad species (Vriesea gladioliflora and Guzmania monostachya) in three locations of the Huertos plot.

    2001 | Biogeochemistry and nutrient pathways in temperate rainforests, US Forest Service. Supervisor, Ken Tabbutt, PhD. Assessed variations in water chemistry and quantity between silvicultural treatments by using Vervier lab pros, an ion chromatograph, an inductively coupled plasma spectrometer and arc view GIS.

    1999 |Natural product isolation, The Evergreen State College. Supervisor: Peter Pessiki, PhD. Assessed the effects of automobile exhaust on the Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) by collecting specimens both along and away from roads, extracting essential oil from specimens and analyzing constituents through spectroscopy.

    1998 | The genetics, physiology and life-cycle of D. melanogaster, The Evergreen State College. Supervisor: Jude Van Buren, PhD. Studied the genetics and developmental biology of the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster); observed Mendel’s Law of Independent Assortment by crossing mutants ebony body and vestigial wing; observed polytene chromosomes by removing and treating the salivary glands; filmed embryonic development on a time-lapse video; and filmed onto video the behaviors performed before copulation.
